The restoration work on Stone Memorial Shelter on the Suffern-Bear Mountain Trail in New York's Harriman State Park has been completed and the shelter is open for use. The roof structure and the sleeping deck have been replaced, and the stone masonry stabilized. The shelter is a welcome overnight resource for adventurers completing a mini thru-hike on the 23.5-mile Suffern-Bear Mountain Trail.
Much appreciation goes to the park staff of Harriman State Park and the Palisades Interstate Parks Commission for their careful restoration work of each of these valued historic shelters each year.
A reminder that trailside camping in Harriman State Park is only permitted in or within 300 yards of a designated trail shelter.
